Hey everyone, thought you may find this interesting!...

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Motown Records, Universal Music are releasing the album "Motown 50". With our endless love for Motown, Universal Music are inviting the public to vote for their favourite Motown tracks and the album will be compiled purely from the top 50 tracks chosen by them.

POLL THE PEOPLE have been selected to run the GREATEST MOTOWN SONGS poll to find the most popular tracks. Universal Motown wanted to embrace social networking to create this unique compilation album and by partnering with Poll The People <http://www.pollthepeople.com/motown50> - the global online polling community - they will be able to provide a tracklisting based purely on the results. People can select their Top 5 Motown songs from the database and their votes are entered into the poll. They will also be connected to other members of the community who match some or all of their Top 5 choices so they can meet like-minded people and discover new gems from the legendary Motown catalogue.

This is an exciting opportunity and the poll is running for 4 weeks from Monday 15th September. The album release will follow on December 1st. Voters are also submitted into a prize draw to win one of 10 sets of FIFTY Motown Albums on CD!

The first record Berry put out under the Tamla logo was this one, that he'd already seen a deal with on UA. Bit of trivia - UA was started by Charlie Chaplin and a couple of other film stars who thought they were being duoed financially by the major studios. Piece of irony there then that Berry Gordy should start his Tamla label for the same reason eh?

As a Motown fan of over 30 years I thought it might be worth starting a Motown section of the Forum. As usual the emphasis will be on the music, the artists, the writers and producers of the music that many Americans are still not fully aware of. So....I'll start a few topics and we'll see if it becomes worthwhile. If it doesn't...hey no problem. We'll try something else!

Since my mid-teens I've wanted to visit Hitsville USA (from the UK), and I finally got there approximately 4 weeks ago at the age of 57! As I had arrived at the Museum very early I got to sit on the stairs leading down into Studio A all on my own without anyone else being around. As I sat there I must admit to having tears in my eyes as I listened to all those wonderful tunes in my head that were created in that small studio.

I have a UK white Advance copy of "I love you madly" by The Fantastic Four. I must admit to preferring the instrumental side. Anybody else a fan of this track, if so, which side?

OK just picked a nice copy of Kim Weston - Helpless at the Toronto show and it got me thinking. I have Tamla sleeves with the Penny Farthing and Motown sleeves with the little record player but I done ever recall seeing Gordy specific sleeves? Anyone else?

Not Motown but Detroit, also picked up a mint Deon Jackson - You Said You Loved Me on Canadian Carla, anyone know any others on Canadian? I have The Capitols and The Excels 45's but they are on Canadian Atco?

The duets from Marvin and Tammi are very often dismissed by some fans as being too "twee".I've always loved their style and the way they always appeared relaxed in each others vocal abilities. I know that later when Diana Ross and Marvin did duets they recorded their vocals seperately at differentv sessions, but I can't believe the same was done with Tammi and he. Anyone got any info on these recordings to clarify?

An Evening with...

Programme from An Evening With The Motown Sound.

I think this one is from 1967. I have two different ones but they are very similar in style. Two different shows but I suspect both from around the same time. These weren't the Motown Revue shows but rather a bit more upscale I think. The programmes are printed on good quality glossy paper. I also seem to remember seeing a third one somewhere but it went over my budget. Any one got anything like this in the cupboard they wanna dig out and post...or even sell/trade?

First 45 on Motown was this one, having already seen a release on the Chess label. There are stories of Berry and Smokey travelling around in cars trying to sell the first copies. True? Who knows..but all part of the Motown folklore.

Barbara Randolph

Barbara Randolph. Don't know too much about this lady aprt from the fact that

a. She made a great version of I Got A Feeling

and

b. She married Eddie Singleton (Ex husband of Berry Gordy's wife Raynoma and owner of then fa med Shrine label), moved out of then music business and retired to South Africa where she sadly passed a couple of years ago.

Anyone know much about her history? Local Detroiter ? How on Earth did she hook up with Eddie? Through the Jobete office in NY maybe?

These cards were promo items that the company commissioned for a tour The Supremes were doing in ....JAPAN.

They're double sided ie. have a photo on each side and are similar in size to a baseball card.
