What surprised many cultural observers was the overwhelming sentiment of fans who rejected the inevitable muckraking in favor of remembering Jackson as he was during his most creative period, from his time with The Jacksons through his blockbuster album, Thriller. For those fans, Chronicle Books releases Michael Jackson: Before He Was King, a collection of 100 images, most never-before-seen, taken by Todd Gray, who was Jackson’s personal photographer during the golden period between 1974 and 1983, just as Jackson bloomed into unprecedented international stardom but before he became insulated as the King of Pop. Gray documented Jackson in performance, for magazine covers, on tour, at home and at play. Gray was granted personal access to the private Michael, with his family and fans, as well as to his incredible career-making live performances and the video shoot for “Beat It.” Michael’s obvious comfort, candor, and pure joy shine through in the images. Michael Jackson: Before He Was King captures the star the way that his fans will want to remember him.

Click the link below to get your own copy!
<a href="http://bit.ly/MJBeforeHeWasKing" target=_"blank" class="SmlLinks">http://bit.ly/MJBeforeHeWasKing

The Mirettes

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the song The Mirettes - ain't my stuff good enough' from?...if I can't get the record maybe some-one can be kind enough to send me an mp3 of it as I have heard it is a hard one to get hold off...thankyou

Anyone ever seen or heard this version before???

here is a cover of the Darrell Banks classic,,,,I'd love to hear some feedback on this one,,,do you like it??,,,hate it??,,,,,have it??

I personally think the vocals are a little weak during the chorus....but I love the organ and the horns

later.

Aret

Philadelphia Soul Rarities Vol 2 ......a new CD

Hi guys, I have a new CD Philadelphia Soul Rarities Vol 2,I fill this is some of my best work, 12 unreleased tracks, recorded at sigma sound in Philly, from the 60s and 70s

my last CD was voted number 1 in Japan,....

http://cdbaby.com:80/cd/universalloverecords2

Weldon

WANTED

Hi anybody got an EDITH BROWN on 4BROTHERS=YOU THINK LOVE IS SOMETHING TO PLAY WITH/YOU DID IT for sale Thanks HECTOR.R

Carol Vega - One little thing

This is one of my favorite Checker record because it´s mad with a doubled lead voice very modern for this time and give the record a very unique atmospheric (in my opinion)

Sadly I have very less information about the artist Carol Vega. For many of my generation it was the impassioned lead baritone voice of the Four Tops that not only got it's hooks into you that would lead to a lifetime of listening, but it was the voice that came to define the golden era of soul. Combining the talents of the Four Tops with their individual personalities led to a quartet of people who not only harmonised like metronomes but led to them remaining loyal to each other throughout their long career. No replacements for Levi here, no spats between the group's members, no scandal, no fall outs, just a lifelong friendship between four people who realised how blessed they were and never took it for granted. With only 'Duke' still around it brings the poignant lyrics of "Ask The Lonely" to even more prominence.

The Four Tops transcended pop music, they became the yardstick for others to emulate. Their lead vocalist became their unique sound. The songs of Holland - Dozier - Holland came to life when the guys hit the stage or the snakepit. And the man who earned the nickname 'The Voice" was always there, front and centre with that sublime, impassioned baritone.

After such a long and painful illness, I for one am releived that Mr Stubbs has gone to a 'better place' and I've no doubt that Obie, Lawrence and a fair few other 'Motowners' were awaiting his arrival with bated breath. God's Band have a new lead singer, move over guys.....Levi's here. Congratulations Mr Stubbs on a job so well done that, not only did you become the voice that became the soundtrack to so many lives, but you became the pinnacle that aLL others could only aspire to, but never reach.

Blue Eyed Faves......whats yours?!?!?

Figured I'd kick off some chat, so whats your fave blue eyed tracks? I dont have much to go on but it is very much Tamla Motown and sounds very much like Tears of a Clown. I heard it in the background on a tv programme called the Wonder Years so i dont have much to give you but here are some of the lyrics (not in any order) that i believe to be almost correct.

The chorus contains the following
When things were fine and your love was mine, I could reach up to you and you'll be there
Seems so strange that you rearrange and i feel like such a fool
I'm your fool.

I saved the section of the tv programme to dvd and ripped the audio off to mp3 but because it is a tv programme there is a lot of talking going on over the track.
But it does get clearer as the song progresses. It does sound like Motown or Northern Soul. I have attached the file for anyone who would like to listen to it.
Thanks in anticipation of your cooperation

Regards

Kevin

Sugar Pie and Pee Wee

I would like to know if somebody has the track "one, two let´s rock" I found out that this track is available on a CD compilation.

I would be very thankful when somebody could send it to me scepterjw@gmx.de as mp3 format.

When everybody have any wishes please ask me, maybe I can help.

Thank you very much

Favourite Girl Groups - Famous - Collectively Known As: - But Who were they?

I got to thinking;

A little like the Funk Brothers - "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown"

There are many names hidden within a group -
Everyone remembers the collective name

i.e. The Marvelettes

But what about various artists who were in the group

Wanda Young (Rogers )
Gladys Horton
Georgia Dobbins
Georgeanna Tillman
Juanita Cowart
Katherine Anderson ( Schaffner )
Anne Bogan

Florence Ballard - Apparently Toured with the group when one was unavailable

Imagine, any of the wonderful tracks that these ladies contributed to;
Mention any of the above names to the casual listener and many would say "Who?"

Considering the Impact that these tracks still have, much loved by many for over 40 years

What a shame

------------------------------

Brilliant, one of my favourite Girl Groups of All Time - Collectively -Thank You
and Individually - Thank You

Other Groups - Anyone?

Cleo Randle - Big City Lights

Now this is another singer which I very like. I was looking forward to hearing the brilliant Northern track SADIE SADIE only to find that the version on this album is a slower funky version. Most of the other tracks are in a northern vein which was a pleasant surprise, but I am gutted that Sadie Sadie is not the right version. Can anyone tell me where the northern version comes from ? I always assumed it was an album only track, are there two different albums ? What should i be looking for ?

Fi-dels side B

Played this last nite and again tonite to check. Luther looks at the song and says "Yes, we'd like to cut that on you". Luther starts preparing the track and Lee goes away to refine the song. Few weeks later Lee's personal circumstances "change" and he informs Luther he's moving to Detroit. Of course he later hooked up with Stevie Wonder and they had a massive fall out over who wrote a certain song when it became a worldwide hit. The song was "Signed Sealed Delivered I'm Yours". The very same song that Lee took to Luther in Philly.

Lots more info and anecdotes etc from the guys in The Harthon Story in Issue #4 of There's That Beat! Out in June.
"Happy Birthday To You"

Mr Levi Stubbs of Four Tops fame and of course Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors

NEW Record Review

There's a new Record Review up by Glenn Hunter on the main Hitsville site.
