In going through my old tapes , I came across a number of tunes by Hector Rivera and one or two others of similar style.
Was this just the preference of one of my swappers at a point in time, or perhaps the playlist of certain club (s) for a period.
Were these tunes widespread on the scene......and does anybody still play & collect them?
Curious.

Nver rea lly took the whole genre although there are isolated groups/records that stand out. For instance I like many of the low rider groups and we were only saying on Sunday that when The Majestics comes on you expect the Three Amigos to burst on stage.
Best full blown latin fused record for me
Mongo Santamaria - Getting It Out Of My System - Columbia
There was quite a bit of latin "soul" played at the Pittsburgh Allnighter last month. We were sat down for too long.

Kate
Thank you....nice to meet you via the forum.
I've been a member on here for a while, but spent time on other forums that I feel no longer serve the purpose they were created for....ie, discuss 60s/70s 'rare' Soul.So I'll be here more often
I think you're joining the CD swap? Should be good, although I've already indentified about 300 tracks on 1 CD LOL! First it was going to be 70s, then 60s, dancers , beat ballads, u/i Motown ...no doubt I'll work something out.
I'm away in Budapest until 2 July and as the post date is 4 July, no doubt I'll be in a last minute panic.
Oh well
regards
Snakepit

I don't believe I can answer your question, but I'm quite a fan of latin soul (and latin sounds in general). I'm always buying stuff on Fania, Cotique, Tico, and other labels when I can find them.

i've been picking up up a number of quality latin soul LPs as of late from a puerto rican friend of mine who is getting out of the record game. joe bataan, ray barretto, willie colon, orchestra harlow, etc.
in the latin soul 45 area, i like bataan's take on "gypsy woman" too, along with ronnie marks' crossover track "some loney heart" on fania, and the absolute ~MONSTER~ "pow-wow" by manny corchado on decca. my dj partner's got this last record; without fail, it lights the dancefloor on fire!

Ady Croasdell went through a period of playing a considerable amount of Latin Soul at the 100 Club in the Eighties / early Nineties, and although some of the tracks went onto universal acceptance, the majority disappeared back into obscurity.
