| What an amazing piece of footage...That just brought tears to my eyes. Watching these guys at work creating the music that has touched our lives so deeply is truly mindblowing. It crystalised a stream of thought I have been mulling over on recent visits to the states...What the hell stopped young black artists, musicians and producers etc from trying to create monumental records like this? The lyrical negativity and lack of genuine musicianship apparent in most contemporary r'n'b and hip hop, is graphically exposed when you watch sequences like this. It is a huge question, but ironically I think even we on the northern and rare soul scene in England are not yet aware of the massive social relevance of all this. In these moments these people are creating more than bloody good music, these truly are some of the most magnificent modern art works of the 20th Century. The streams of gospel, blues, do-wap and all the other influential post war 'pop' sounds are being refined here into a 'sound' and an entity that defies comparison, in my humble opionion, with any other music trend since. The teamwork, the harnessed energy and commitment, the cool appearance of the participants, the arrangers guiding bona-fide 'musos' around the charts, Ruffins tortured genius of a voice straining at his heartstrings, simply stunning human syncroncisity for the world to behold... Nice post Dave, very nice...
Nothing's too good for me, maybe...!
