OK, just about squared away now after a great week with Mates both old and new. First Hitsville gathering in Mojacar and expected a few hiccups/teething problems but was very pleasantly surprised. Admin wise nothing major, but as you'd expect there's a few 'bits' that need addressing before the club return next year.

NUMBERS: We had 121 attend, including DJs and young Carrick. (He spent as much time on the dancefloor as anyone so ranks a full tick in a box for attending.

PROGRAMME: Thought the programme was just about right. Thursday at Reflections, nice and chilled, people arriving, few scoops, few hellos, putting names to faces etc. Bit of a dance etc. enjoyed it. Then Friday - still a few arriving but by now we're 'at it' full belt. Saturday Allnighter, by Midnight it's
buzzin' and we still had 30 people on the dancefloor at the end before breakfast so...another good night, the Sunday BBQ/Brunch Alldayer at La Finca. A superb way to spend the day chilling out to the guys midtempo sounds. Have to say I REALLY enjoyed the afternoon/early evening as the guys dug into their boxes for stuff you never hear. Then Monday evening 20 of us out for a meal to celebrate Marcelle's birthday just about capped it all off in fine style I thought. Nice one guys!

HOTEL VENUE: Have to say I've received nothing but good things about the hotel location. Not surprising really as it's right on the beach and most rooms open their balcony to a Mediterranean sea view. General feeling was that it was much better than La Quinta in Kissimmee. Few things need sorting reference posting bar tariff and menu for daytime snacks but apart from that I think it's a case of 'Ain't broke - don't fix it'.

ALLNIGHTER ROOM : Will get some industrial fans for next year as it did hot up! Also, will change light bulbs next year for better ambient lighting. Apart from that I think we were 'tickety boo'. The inside/outside terrace didn't cause any dramas and people could flow in and out as they wished. Might even take the afternoon sessions outside next year onto the beach! Watch this space.

SOUND RIG : It's no secret that I'm on a learning curve with this and the bits we added to the rig this year proved to be a massive improvement. The clubs equipment is improved upon each year and although we had two pieces fail on us, the replacement was seamless and I doubt anyone noticed. We pumped out 400w from each speaker x 4 and it sounded good to my ears. I asked around and everyone seemed to think the sound was spot on. We have one mic and one Technic to repair and then we will be complete with two sets again for next year. We have enough in the kitty to carry out these repairs so all is well on that front. We need a spare amp in order to be fully prepared for any mishaps and Kev P has said he will take care of that, so cheers Kilo.

DJs : Stars of the show for me. It's also no secret that I like nothing better than hanging out with guys who have a similar love of soul on vinyl and this year was outstanding. Right from the off the Hitsville 'firstimers' slotted straight in with the gang and fit like a glove. Albert and Dani, Budgie, Karl, Pete, Denny and Chris and their respective ladies proved that there are likeminded people out there who love their soul and are determined to celebrate it with style and panache. Great job guys. Your contribution was immense and we all appreciated it. I will add a few playlists at the bottom of this post. Not all the 45s palyed but it'll give you a flavour of what got played. Bit churlish to pick anyone out from what was an outstanding line up of record collectors but a few highlights for me:

Pete's satisfaction on opening his Allnighter set with Larry Clinton. It's a great feeling for a collector to wait so long and then do it.
Denny's grabbing the bull by the horns with Gewn Owens just at the right time.
Karl dropping the needle onto the unreleased Contours.
Fergie slating me fopr not having Sonny Herman, then playing it.
Greety playing Chuck Holiday and Sounds of Friction (It's the only time I ever get to dance to 'em)
Al Pollard playing Linda Jones - If We Had Met Sooner (A triumph of quality over rarity if ever there was one)
Dani playing The Teenagers 45 while a couple of members of the band danced to it.
Finally managing to say..."This is The Poets - Wrapped Around Your Finger"
Watching Denny's Eddie Parker (Awake) spinning on a Hitsville slipmat for the first time.

All great memories, stored away for those bleak Saturday nights ahead.

RADIO SHOWS: First time I've been responsible for these and I'm still wading through the WAV files etc. Keep an eye (and an ear) on the website over the next few months as Jason and I try to get 'em up there.

THE FUTURE: The general concensus was that we will return next year for sure. Hotel bookings and transport from the airport will be done next year by Bev so as to avoid the language barrier that put a few people off and we also discussed bringing an iconic musician/arranger/producer to the next one with a view to an afternoon Q and A session and radio interview. (Similar to the one we did with The Harthon Trio).

FINALLY: There was one blight towards the end of the Sunday Night when unfortunately a couple of bootlegs were spotted on the decks. The 'DJ' was asked to stand down and I finished the set. It's important that people understand that if they are invited to come play with us on the Hitsville Technics that there is no ambiguity. We are a bunch of dancin' anoraks that ONLY play 45s/LPs/Acetates etc in their original format. Any type of bootleg, pressing, carver, or whatever other gubbins is neither required, wanted or appreciated. If you don't agree with us that's fine, but it's our club and our etiquette, if you don't agree with it......leave your 45s at home. Needless to say the commemorative slipmats that the offending items infected have been destroyed and replaced with new ones.

Big thanks to everyone for their feedback. Bev and I had a great time all weekend. Great music, great banter, great dancing, some lovely meals and to share it all with such luvverly people makes it al the more special. See you in Valencia in a couple of weeks when we get to do it all again!!!!!!

What an amazing set of playlists! And to think...that's just some of what was played! As for the room, I'd take a hot room over a snap-together dancefloor any day of the week.

Hopefully we'll all be there next year to enjoy it!
